Inspiration
Culture
The serious of paintings follow me expressing my culture. I wanted to represent my self through my culture and express how its impacted me . The three paintings are focused on the Mexican culture. The Mexican Flag is demonstrated in my artist in the city to represent where my family comes from.
Artist
Frida Kahlo was my main inspiration for my series of paintings because she represents her self through her cultural. Theres not a single painting of Frida Kahlos that doesn't involve culture. She represents her roots of both of her parents cultures. She dresses herself in traditional ethnic dress to demonstrate her Mexican side. I did the same by painting my self in Aztec traditional wear. Her technique of using body parts and connecting them to the human body influenced me to connect a heart with a traditional flower to represent my culture growing inside me.

Process
I began my process gessoing every one of my pieces. After that was done I began by tracing out the outline. I began by sketching out what I was going to paint on each canvas. For each piece I personally deiced to do one time. I began by creating artist first. I began by working on the background of the piece by blending two colors together. I added the dark color first to blend and transition into a lighter color. After that was done I colored the face of the woman with a nude a color. Her face didn't have a lot going on because I wanted the main focus to the head piece. The head piece was significant because it brought out the meaning right away. The viewer would be able to see the headpiece and connect it back to the Aztec culture. The head piece was painted with light browns to show an almost gold look to it. The gems on the head had all colors that signified something. The greens and reds cased the Mexican flag, but the purple in the center showcased royalty.
Artist in the city was started with painting the background of it and blended out all of the colors. I used the same technique of watering down the acrylic to make it blend better. I began by coloring in the city skyline with black and faded out the black to go blend in the grey. After that I laid down the color for Mexico flag and blend outer edges of the piece with white. The final process of artist in the city was adding metallic gold paint. I added the metallic gold paint not because it looks nice but because I wanted to represent how my family view the cities here compared to where they were.
City in the artist was the easiest to paint compared to the other two prices. I began by paint the main focus of the heart which was the front. After that I laid down two other types of reds then I began creating the flower that hits the corner of the heart. I outlined the flower and after I filled it in with different colors.

Reflection
Through out painting this piece I encountered many difficulties but also found many strengths within my technique of painting. Sketching my ideas of my pieces on to the canvas was a very difficult. I had to work with viewpoints of my face and the way that face structure would look if it was positioned in that way. I encountered a lot of problems with being able to blend out the acrylic and making it transition into a lighter color. I overcame this problem by watering done the acrylic to blend and overlapping the colors until I was able to create a gradient for the background. Another issue that I faced with my piece was being able to have the same color scheme so that they would compliment each other since they were going to be next to each other.
