Spring Night
Spring Night
Color Pencil on Paper 12 X 12 cm I designed this dress being heavily influnced by one of Coco Channels fashion designs and incoperated Vincen Van Gous art piece Starry Night. I wanted to incorperate a modern design with a classic art peice. Through this Im able to demonstrate a modern piece with a twist off of a classical one. |
PlanningI began by planning out this peice by researching classic fashion designers. I finally found a peice that inpsired me and I followed to then to begin sketching it. I sketched over five dresses to see which one I wnated to follow along with and fully design it. After I had done fully sketched the design I picked. I followed to pick what colors I wanted to use fot it. I thought I would go on along and chose colors that were close to exact with Stary Night, but I decieded not to because I wanted to go in with a different approch to it.

Process
I began my process for creating my peice by sketching the curves of a womens body, having in mind how the dress I was designing would look like on them. After having the base of the body down I began to design the dress, begining with the top of the dress. I wanted the top of the dress to have a curve coming out but hugging the breast so it would flow nicely. Following the designing of the top I began to design the bottom of the dress I added a band around the waist to enfsize it. The bottom of the dress was simple but I designed a point where a couple of the layers would crunch up to give it a flowy look to it. After I had the fodation of the dress and all of its details I began my coloring it. I began to go over the entire dress with a light pink and outlined the dress with a deepper pink to have it stand out more. I then went along and also went over the light pink with the deeper pink to have a mix of color. To add a deepness and shodow to the dress, I comnided a light ornage to it and added it to the the corners of the dress. I added the light ornage on the top by the breat area and the point where the layers of the dress would meet in the front. All of the colors were layed down and were mixed, I followed to outline the dress with black to make the design of the dress to stand out more. I then went on to add the design to the dress. I wanted to replacate the same design and technique that Vango had used in this piece Stary Night on my peice. I replacted this by using the same colors that ia had used to color the peice to make heavy lines to showcase movement through my harsh lines.
Reflection
I had never designed any type of clothing or even thought of creating something having to do with fashion. I deceided to go out of my comfort zone and design something that revolved around one of Vongus peices. Hes inpired me so much as an artist and it was only right for me to incorpate one of his most amazing peices of work into my work.
I learned a lot in the process of desiging this dress, one of the biggest factors that I learned about designing in genreal is if you mess up, just keep going. Since I had never done anything like this I kept redoing my design. I would change something new every time I would start a new design. I finally got over trying to perfect each peice and kept moving on everytime I would mess up. Through this I was able to see what I did wrong and how I can fix it. Fianlly after the 10th time I got my perfect design.
Not only was designing this peice complicated for me to do but adding color was also. I struggled blending colors because of the quality of my products. It was a challange but I belive that I over came it and got what I was looking for. With just as many failures I had I also had successes as well. One of my biggest success of this peice was that I was able to perfectly curve the dress to it the illution of a womens body.
