Emotions of Color
Inspiration
Les Leffingwell
Queen of the Blues-Les Leffingwell
Les Leffingwell inspired me through his technique of rough brush strokes and choice of color pallet .
I incoperated this technique and color choice through out my entire piece. Leffingwell used a very bright and colorful pallet. It inspired me to do the same with my piece. I incorporated as much color as possible into my piece to mimic his work. I stayed away from dole colors and only use secondary colors. A significant key factor to Les Leffingwell's work is his ruff brush strokes and over lapping of bright colors. I did this technique through my piece. I began with overlapping a number of colors to mimic his technique of transiting colors. After I laid down the base of colors I followed up with using his use of over lapping to give life and movemnt to his peice.

Process
My process began with primping my canvas and painting it with gesso. After priming my canvas I then followed it along with painting the canvas with a number of different colors. I began with the color hot pink and transitioned it to the color orange. I blended the colors through mixing them together and watered them down to make the transition seamless. I followed this process through the entire background of my piece. Following that I used white to outline the body before I began painting the body. I began painting the bottom half on the women's body with 4 different colors. I wanted to mix a number of colors to create showdown and depth to it. I then began to mix a number of different colors to the back of the women's body and focused on the left side to have the most color to create a type of shadow to it. The women's hair was my next step to apply the base of colors. I did a mix of colors that corresponded to the colors mixes from the body. I decided to do this to make the entire piece flow together. After I laid down all of the bases of colors, I decided to then add bold lining to the piece to give it dimension. I ran a bright red line down the back of the women's body to give her the look of her spine. I then followed up to outline certain parts of her body to bring attention and define them.
Reflection
I began this peice being heavly inspired by Les Leffingwell. His bright color pallet inspired me to begin my peice with a number of different bright colors. I had never worked with such bright colors before so doing so was not an easy process. I had a hard time picking what colors to use. I wanted to use all bright colors but eneded up encorperating black and brown. This is one of the mistakes that I had with this peice. I wish I would have never encorperated that and juts kept it bright colors. Another one of my mistakes with this piece is that between the womens legs I filled the space with gold. I should have kept it with the black viod between her legs, not only would it have looked better but it would have made the viewers undertsand my piece more. One of my biggest diffculties with this peice was was blending. Since I was working with acrylic I had to add water, so it would lighten up and blend easier. One of my successes with this piece had to be the womens body. I feel like I did a really great job on incoperating the curves of a women. Another one of my sucesses I belive is the background of my piece. I worked exteremly hard on it and it payed off. Overall this piece has to be one of th best pieces I have ever done.
