Industrial vs Organic
Title: Destroying me
Medium: Chicken wire on moss Size: 12 x 17 cm 14 February 2016 I wanted to represent mother nature getting consumed by the industrial world. We live in a world that is super industrialized and there arent anymore living things at it use to be. Nature isn't a priority anymore but the industrial world is. Through this piece can see overkilling of natures work. |

When I decided that I wanted to do a piece that focused on mother nature I went on to do my research. During my research I found this piece and fell in with it. I loved how the grass gave face structure to connect it back to mother nature.
Our pieces are similar because moss is covered everywhere to give it the same look and texture to it. Using moss I was able to almost duplicate the the whole face. |
Process |
I began my process by sketching out all the ideas I had in mind for this project. I ended up going with the one that I felt got my point across right away.
I began by creating my piece by putting all of the moss on the dolls head with a hot glue gun. I then covered the entire head of the doll except the face with moss. The face of the doll I painted with silver and grey acrylic paint to give it the industrial look to it. I put down grey all over the face and contoured the dolls face with silver. Through this the viewer would be able to distinguish the face of the doll and see that its a face of a woman. I measured the face of the doll and then cut a piece of chicken wire to cover the face. I attached the chicken wire to the face of the doll with a hot glue gun only attaching the sides to the face. |

Reflection
The creation of this piece was fast and vigorous. This piece was fast because I was able to begin and finish this piece in day. This piece was also vigorous because of the martial used. I used real moss and it was extremely complicated to cut out pieces to fit all around the head. It was also hard to work with real moss because it didn't work well with the hot glue gun. The moss also was very messy and hard to manipulate. Another vigorous challenge for this piece was using chicken wire and applying it to the moss. It was already hard enough applying the moss to the head but applying the chicken wire on it was extremely challenging. I had to work fast to apply the hot glue on the wire and apply it right away on to the moss before it was too cool for the moss to take. A strength of this piece is the meaning behind it and how the viewer can easily connect to it. A weakness for this piece was that since I had added the moss before painting it some pieces of the face are patching because of the over painting on the moss.
