Inspiration |
I wanted to follow up with a pattern for my block but I didn't know what to do. While searching for inspiration I came across a Pablo Picassos painting of Girl Before a Mirror. I felt inspired by the movement of cubism that he used for this piece. I knew I could add cubism to my tree and make it more appealing.

Process
I began my process of block printing by sketchy out drafts of trees. After four drafts I went with the design that had all different types of shapes. I designed the tree leave shapes first and made sure everything would flow nicely. I designed the shapes by choosing out random shapes and giving them a different twist. The trunk of the tree I designed by having the idea of having the trunk to have a flowing feel to it.
Now after having the design sketched out, theres the craving of the piece. I began by tracing out the sketch on the block. After that I began by craving out the shapes. Craving out the shapes was a very hard task because of how complicated the curves and edges of them were. The trunk was the easiest part of craving because I had gotten a practice on craving from the shapes and also the trunk wasn't complicated in shape.
For printing I began by adding on ink on the block and rolling out the ink all over it. After that I placed the block on a piece of paper and grabbed the smoothing petal and smoothed out the ink to have distribute it properly.
