Santiago Calatrava
Growing up in Milwaukee I was exposed to great architecture. One of my favorite buildings growing up seeing was the Milwaukee Art museum. When this project was presented to me the first thing I wanted to do is research who was the architect who created it. Santiago Calatrava was the man behind it and found out that he has created numerous art works through his creation of abstract buildings. He was my main inspiration with this piece. His use of lining, bending, twist, and repetitiveness inspired every piece of my project. |
Process
1. Sketched out the lines and void on the wooden board.
2. Cut the lines through my board.
3. Bought wooden pieces and wood glue.
4. Started experimenting with the pieces and seeing what created the most shadows.
5. Began by laying all the pieces of wood that I was going to use in the order I was going to glue them.
6. Glued all my pieces down.

Reflection
The process for creating this was very difficult for a number of reasons. I was faced with a blank board and could create practically anything I wanted. It was difficult for me to narrow down my ideas and see what I truly wanted to create. After doing a long day of researching artists I found inspiration in one and decided to base it off his work. A success of this project was my inspiration and how it guided me through making my work.I was able to create buildings that went straight off of similar skyscrapers that the artist had created. Another one my success was being able to portray my idea effectively. I wanted to create a futuristic city and I was able to present that through my work.
